Ground clutter rejection by MTI weather radar
Abstract
The possibilities of a noncoherent Moving Target Indicator (MTI) technique applicable to weather radar systems are studied. It is found that the MTI system can be used for the quantitative rainfall measurement. It is pointed out that the magnitude of the measurement error under the condition of the interference to precipitation echo by ground clutter became clear. Furthermore, a linear IF amplifier dealing with the radar received signal by precipitation having the wide dynamic range such as 80 dB and the performances of cancelers are studied in detail. The results are utilized in a proto-type special processor which is being manufactured.
