A pulsed power supply for tokamak equilibrium field coils
Abstract
The paper gives a brief description of the power supply circuits for the toroidal field (TF) and ohmic heating (OH) coils of the Argonne small experimental tokamak, and then offers some more details on an efficient thyristor switching circuit for pulsing the equilibrium field (EF) coils. Although for initial operation the current rise in the EF coils will be driven by the voltage across the OH coil, it was desired to have an independently adjustable current rise with a 1 cos (omega)t shape. A circuit is given which meets the requirements of a fast current rise, long flattop, and high field energy.
