Coding analysis for M-ary noncoherent FSK data transmission
Abstract
An M-ary noncoherent modulated linear communication system is analyzed from a coding point of view. The system performance measure is defined as the soft decision cutoff rate. An expression for the soft decision cutoff rate is then derived without any restriction on the signals correlation. It is then shown that the choice of M (the modulation alphabet size) to achieve the higher system throughput is dependent on the channel BT product and available SNR.
