Approximate models for fluid flow
Abstract
Several different approximate methods for the boundary value problems of fluid mechanics are classified and intercompared by using weighted residuals. The use of weighted residuals permits one to establish the relationship existing between methods such as the finite element method, boundary element method, Trefftz methods, singular boundary integral methods, and others. The linearized Navier-Stokes equations are studied as an illustrative example.
