Overview of missile guidance
Abstract
The concepts and capabilities of various types of missile guidance systems are briefly reviewed. Inertial or dead reckoning, command, and homing types of missile guidance are considered. Attention is focused on the design features and functions of radar-guided missiles, with particular reference to radar homing. The discussion covers carrier and waveform used in homing systems, elements of active and semiactive guidance systems, incoherent pulse receiver signal tracking loop, CW receiver signal tracking loop, geometric angles associated with proportional navigation, simplified guidance system using steerable antenna, simplified guidance system using body-fixed antennas, and gimballed seekers.
