Predicted performance of the Viterbi decoding algorithm for channels with burst and random errors
Abstract
Computer simulation results are presented on the performance of Viterbi decoders when receiving data corrupted with burst and random errors in the same channel. Data runs were made for three nominal error probabilities: 10%, 1%, and 0.1% with the burst error percentages composing half of the total percentages. Bursts were spread over various ranges with lengths 1, 2, 3, and 5 with varying percentages of the total error percentage. Curves representing typical degradations are presented.
