Alfven wave heating in toroidal plasmas
Abstract
Results on Alfven wave heating are reviewed for a straight cylindrical plasma (considered as an infinite aspect ratio limit of an axisymmetric torus) in the optimal regime of near resonance with a global mode. In addition, spectral modifications due to the toroidal nature of the plasma are discussed and known experimental results relevant to the study are analyzed. The parameters used in this study are values relevant to the Lausanne (TCA) tokamak, constructed to study Alfven wave heating.
