Telemetry for rotating measurements on turbomachinery
Abstract
The paper deals with the use of miniature ruggedized radio telemetry transmitters mounted on the rotating shafts of high-speed turbomachines. The discussion focuses on definition of telemetry for rotating measurements on turbomachinery, advantages and limitations, choosing between telemetry and slip-rings, designing a telemetry installation, and conducting the engine test. Future developments in turbine telemetry are mentioned, including the development of an advance turbine telemetry system with digitally controlled transmitter carrier signals. This permits simultaneous transmission of hundreds of signals and meets future requirements for large-scale strain survey tests. Technical data on standard telemetry transmitters are also provided.
