Some characteristics of the planetary distribution of irregular geomagnetic variation amplitudes
Abstract
The planetary amplitude distribution of irregular magnetic variations and the corresponding equivalent currents is examined. a pronounced influence of geoelectric irregularities of the magnetic variation amplitudes in the auroral zone is noted, along with the almost complete absence of penetrations of the western electrojet to the mid-latitudes. It is shown that 5 to 30 min magnetic variations are of a nonuniform nature, some develop by analogy to substorms, and some appear to be caused by currents flowing along the boundary of the magnetosphere.
