A new cut of quartz giving improved temperature stability to SAW oscillators
Abstract
Most quartz SAW devices currently utilize the ST-cut for temperature stability. The present paper describes a new family of cuts of quartz that have improved temperature stability and that should be of particular importance in SAW oscillators and resonators. These new rotated X-cuts have zero beam steering and piezoelectric coupling that is approximately one half that for ST-quartz. In addition, these cuts have either (1) a parabolic frequency-temperature characteristic similar to ST-quartz but with half the parabola constant or (2) an AT-like behavior but with the inflexion temperature at about 100 C.
