Universal connection between solar and geomagnetic activity
Abstract
Using the presented examples of geomagnetic storms and disturbances which were preceded by various situations on the sun, it is proved that no simple relation exists between solar and geomagnetic activity. No matter which manifestation of solar activity one considers, i.e., sunspots, faculae, flocculae, filaments, or flares, one finds contradictory associations. The explanation is given by a coronal model which we worked out some years ago and on which our method of forecasting geomagnetic activity, periods of calm and disturbance, is found
