Equilibrium of ionic rings
Abstract
The equations which describe the azimuthally symmetric equilibrium of a system of charged particles in an external magnetic field are studied. In particular, attention is focused on the rigidrotor type of diamagnetic equilibrium. The solutions of these equations are discussed, in one and two dimensions, for ion rings in isothermal and in adiabatic equilibrium states.
