Development of Japanese H-I launch vehicle
Abstract
The paper presents several proposed configurations for the H-I launch vehicle. Three payload classes are considered: up to 550 kg, up to 650 kg, and up to 800 kg. A solid booster and liquid-propellant booster are evaluated. Attention is focused on the vehicle for payloads up to about 550 kg. It has a gimballed N-launch vehicle first stage engine along with two vernier engines using LOX/RJ-1. The second stage is a cryogenic stage with cylindrical integral tank. The guidance section is on top of the second stage, and block diagram of this system is shown. Characteristics of the guidance computer are given.
