Natural oscillation analysis of vibrational test data
Abstract
The evaluation procedure of vibrational test data utilizes usually only a fraction of the information which is available on the basis of the conducted tests. Only the vibrational amplitude obtained as a function of frequency is employed to evaluate the investigated structure. The tests provide, however, in addition also the complete phase information regarding the experiments. A prescription is presented of a procedure which makes it possible to obtain with the aid of routine test operations the required structural information in the form of the digital data of complex spectra. The obtained complex spectra can be used as a basis for the conduction of a natural vibration analysis of the investigated structure. The structural response which is analytically derived as a function of the excitation data and the natural vibration parameters is adapted to the measured response spectra to obtain the desired structural information. Practical examples related to a satellite study are used to illustrate the characteristics of the results which can be obtained.
