Operational planning for the utilization of Intelsat V satellites
Abstract
The Intelsat IV-A satellite achieved its capacity at 6/4 GHz by frequency reuse by beam separation. The Intelsat V satellite, in addition, utilizes frequency reuse by dual polarization operation, thus achieving increased capacity by four-fold frequency reuse at 6/4 GHz. Another new technology, i.e., operation at 14/11 GHz, is a feature of the Intelsat V satellite. The 14/11 GHz bandwidth can be utilized in two modes simultaneously. Firstly, by interconnection with the 6/4 GHz transponders, and secondly, in a straight-through service in the 14/11 GHz band only. The introduction of these new technologies in the space segment will have considerable impact on the earth segment.
