Distribution of galactic X-ray sources at a large scale
Abstract
The global distribution of galactic X-ray sources (GXRS) listed in the Fourth Uhuru catalog is investigated. The number-intensity distribution and the distributions with respect to galactic latitude and galactic longitude are computed on the basis of a specific assumption concerning the volume density of GXRS, a parametrization of the GXRS luminosity function by a power law, and the assumption that the GXRS are runaway systems. The results obtained indicate that: (1) most GXRS contain an extreme Population I object; (2) the birthrate of GXRS is related to the gas density prevailing in their birth places; and (3) most GXRS are runaway systems with a perpendicular velocity of approximately 100 km/s.
