Astronomical papers dedicated to Bengt Stroemgren
Abstract
These papers deal with a wide variety of subjects, ranging from stellar structure and galactic research to density-wave theory and future telescope design. Specific topics include K-line photometry of A stars, Stromgren and Walraven photometry of faint F stars in the southern galactic polar cap, solar granulation and the nature of 'microturbulence', the solar center-limb wavelength shift as a relativistic effect, effective temperatures and radii of O and B stars, large optical telescopes of the 21st century, and the intrinsic width of the zero-age main sequence. Other contributions discuss colors and spectra of globular-cluster stars, photoionization models for Seyfert and radio-galaxy nuclei, cosmic-ray propagation through a plasma, unidentified high-latitude X-ray sources, the mass of the halo population in the Galaxy, the dynamics of spiral structure in galaxies, and observations of high-velocity neutral hydrogen clouds.
