Monitoring of particulates
Abstract
The mechanisms of particulate settlement include impaction and deposition; the dependence of impaction and deposition rates on particle size is analyzed. Continuous particulate monitoring with an opacimeter, the analog of dust-obscuring light in the atmosphere, is described. Monitoring by impacimeter, an analog of the impaction of dust on surfaces, also receives attention. Finding a representative point for continuous sampling, and compensating for the maldistribution of particle sizes found at any cross section of a duct are among the sampling problems considered. A monitoring system consisting of both an impacimeter and an opacimeter is proposed.
