Measurement and optimisation of a large reflector antenna by microwave holography
Abstract
The paper deals with measurement and optimization of a large (25-m dia.) reflector antenna by microwave holography. Consideration is given to the diagnosis of panel misalignment and malformations, astigmatism due to gravitational loading etc., associated with large antennas. In the present context, the primary objective of microwave holographic diagnostics is to facilitate the optimization of an antenna in terms of its gain and radiation pattern. The results obtained enable the feed to be correctly positioned and the reflector shape to be readjusted, thereby giving the best approximation to a paraboloid with the existing panels at the mean elevation angle used in the measurement.
