Offset reflector optimization relative to matched-primary feed devices
Abstract
The paper outlines a two-dimensional optimization for offset parabolic reflectors illuminated by matched primary-feed devices. Simultaneous cross-polarization minimization and on-axis gain minimization are shown to be feasible. In addition, it is found that accurate determination of the optimum illumination angle and the corresponding degree of mixing the higher order compensating mode in the matched device is possible. For a given reflector and its offset parameters, the optimization routine can be reserved to look for the best possible size of the matched-feed device.
