Principles of surface wave filter design
Abstract
A circuit model characterization of the interdigital surface acoustic wave transducer is developed in order to evaluate transducer design trade-offs. Surface wave technology is discussed with reference to other methods for implementing transversal filters. The circuit model characterization of the electric-to-acoustic transfer function of a generalized interdigital transducer is derived. Circuit-model trade-offs are given for achieving transducer performance within a specified tolerance. Performance is considered as a function of substrate material, transducer geometry, design bandwidth, and the electrical tuning circuit.
