Investigation of microwave emission from a hypersonic-flow plasma
Abstract
A theoretical method is proposed for investigating some parameters of nonequilibrium nonuniform hypersonic plasmas formed in shock-heated air on the basis of measurements of spontaneous microwave emission from the plasma. Shock-tube experiments were conducted at initial pressures of 1-10 torr, Mach numbers of 12-20 and at wavelengths of 2.2 and 0.8 cm. It was determined that the microwave emission can be used to measure the ionizational relaxation and the boundary-layer parameters of the plasma.
