Motion of an intense shock wave of arbitrary profile in an inhomogeneous medium
Abstract
The general principle governing the propagation of an intense curvilinear shock front in a medium that is inhomogeneous in terms of density is derived on the basis of analyses performed by Chisnell (1955) and Whitham (1958). The analytical relationships which determine the propagation of the front are obtained and used to calculate gas motion produced by an explosion in an inhomogeneous atmosphere.
