Heat transfer from a porous sphere in a stream of small Reynolds number
Abstract
The velocity distribution of Gupta and Zamm (1974) is used to determine the temperature distribution in a steady low-Reynolds-number flow past a porous sphere, the object of the study being to establish the effect of the porosity on heat transfer from the sphere. The main result is the determination of the relation between the Nusselt number and the Peclet number. Values of Nusselt number are found to differ significantly from those calculated for the case of a nonporous sphere. The effect of porosity consists in the decrease of temperature gradient and heat transfer from the sphere.
