Modems for digital transmission in burst mode over communications satellites
Abstract
The transmission of digital signals in satellite communications technology becomes more and more important. German and French companies developed in this connection the system TDMA-S2. This system was tested in 1977 with the aid of the experimental satellite Symphonie and in 1977/78 with the aid of Intelsat IV. A description is presented of the modems and of some of the most important measurement results. The transmission bit rates are in the range from 60 Mbits/sec to 180 Mbits/sec. The employed modulation procedure is four-phase modulation with difference coding and coherent demodulation.
