Laser-induced breakdown phenomena
Abstract
Multiphoton ionization is described in the framework of laser-induced breakdown phenomena. The relation of inverse bremsstrahlung absorption to laser-produced gas breakdown is explained. Topics discussed include the multiphoton ionization rate, gas breakdown by multiphoton ionization, collision dominated breakdown - cascade ionization, breakdown threshold intensity for cascade growth, importance of spherical aberration in laser produced breakdown, and self-focusing effects
