A method for calibrating sensor heads of automatic particle counters (APCs) was evaluated. The technique relies on the use of mono-sized spheres suspended in a liquid medium. The evaluation shows that the method can be readily applied to APCs utilizing the light blockage principle and suggests certain advantages of the technique over existing methods. The use of mono-sized spheres is recommended as a suitable alternative to present calibration techniques.
