Advanced lasers for fusion applications
Abstract
Producing commercial fusion power using inertial confinement techniques is discussed. Repetitively pulsed laser systems for fusion reactor drive are examined. The projected efficiencies of a number of driver laser systems based on selected new laser media and excitation techniques are reported and physical and technological scaling issues are identified. The systems are compared with driver systems based on more developed laser media.
