SNR for the EISCAT UHF system
Abstract
The signal to noise ratios were calculated for the EISCAT UHF system. The effective scattering volume for the EISCAT UHF incoherent radar is expressed in a simple form assuming a Gaussian distribution of the relative power pattern of a uniformly illuminated parabolic reflector. From this the SNR can be calculated. Knowledge of the effective scattering volume is also required in order to calibrate the radar system for electron density measurements.
