Computation of groundwave attenuation over irregular and inhomogeneous ground at low and medium frequencies
Abstract
A computer program was written to calculate groundwave field strength at low and medium frequencies. Account is taken of arbitrary variation of the ground constants and the height above sea level along the path of propagation. A variety of tests show the program to be fast and the results accurate. The results confirm the widely held belief that departure of the surface from a smooth sphere is not usually very important in terrain that is not mountainous. Nevertheless, a useful gain in groundwave field strength can result from siting a transmitter on high ground.
