Analysis of inhomogeneous helical delay systems
Abstract
A one-wave approximation based on a variational principle is used to examine the effect of angle of winding on electromagnetic wave propagation in a helically conducting cylinder, modeling the delay system of a traveling wave tube. Approximate expressions for the reflection coefficient of the helical winding are obtained, and the effects of inhomogeneity of the winding on the standing wave ratio are examined.
