Experimental investigation of nonlinear nonstationary processes in a type O backward-wave tube oscillator
Abstract
An experiment was devised to study the stabilization of oscillations in an O-type backward wave tube. The results are found qualitatively to agree well with the Ginzburg-Kuznetsov-Fedoseeva nonlinear theory of transient processes in a relativistic O-type BWT (1978). A modulation of the output signal, predicted by the theory, was observed for the CW mode of operation, when the beam current sufficiently exceeded the value of the start current. The value of current corresponding to the start of modulation and its frequency are in good accord with the theoretical values.
