Principal resonance in a gyroscope on an elastic suspension
Abstract
The equations of motion of gyroscope with elastic gimbals, resting on a uniformly rotating base are derived, treating the gyroscope as a nonlinear system. The influence of nonlinearities resulting from the kinematics of the gimbal suspension and the imperfect elasticity of the material of the deformable elements (torsion rods) on the gyro dynamics is analyzed. Resonance curves corresponding to some special cases are analyzed, and the resonance frequencies of nonlinear and linear systems are compared.
