The effect of a parallel gas-dielectric interface on the dielectric recovery characteristics following arc interruption
Abstract
The experimental measurements of dielectric breakdown voltage were carried out under Bus fault conditions. Dielectric breakdown voltages were considerably lower than the values predicted by the theoretical models. The use of mathematical techniques to predict the dielectric breakdown voltage with and without the influence of solid dielectrics on reducing the interrupting capability of the circuit breaker using a suitable computer program was presented. A mathematical model was developed to predict the dielectric breakdown performance of the test interrupter. The procedure followed to define the necessary parameters was described to provide a guide for future efforts of this nature. The abilities and limitations of this model technique were evaluated.
