The Unclamped and Current Clamped Suparamp: Studies of the Unbiased Josephson Junction Parametric Amplifier.
Abstract
The operation of a Superconducting Unbiased PARametric AMPlifier (SUPARAMP), a parametric amplifier whose active element is a Josephson junction was anayzed under the assumption that the voltage across the junction has a nearly sinusoidal time dependence. In practice, Josephson junction amplifiers will often be operating in the opposite limit (where the current through the junction is sinusoidal)because of the generally low impedances of Josephson junctions. The analysis of this opposite limit was extended in order to obtain results for: (1) the characteristics of the external circuit necessary to obtain high gain, (2) the gain-bandwidth product, (3) powerwidth at a specific gain, and (4) the expected noise temperature of such an amplifier.
