Multi-dimensional DPCM algorithms were studied for the application of Picturephone. Part of the work which deals with two dimensional intraframe delta modulators are discussed. One dimensional modulators are discussed with the aid of the Abate mode ADM and the Song mode ADM chosen to demonstrate the ability and shortcomings in video signal encoding. Values of the output signal to noise are shown for the objective measurement. The encoded pictures are also shown for the purpose of subjective comparison. Two new types of ADM, the A mode ADM and the B mode ADM are discussed along with frame difference, phase shift, and image distortion etc.
