Quantum Kinetic Theory of Time Correlation Functions.
Abstract
The exact linear kinetic theory for time correlation functions is developed using modern classical theories as a guide. The utility of the formalism is demonstrated through two examples. When applied to a low-density degenerate gas the resulting kinetic equation reduces to a linearized version of the Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation. Also, a kinetic equation appropriate for a system interacting through long range forces is discussed by considering the self-diffusion of an impurity in a plasma and the broadening of spectral emission lines by a plasma. The results obtained apply for degenerate as well as classical plasmas.
