Lateral migration in a micropolar fluid: A model for slurries of fine and coarse particles in a Newtonian liquid carrier
Abstract
The flow of a suspension composed of fine and coarse rigid particles in a Newtonian liquid carrier was studied. Both simple shear and plane Poiseuille flow are treated. The motion of the larger particles is treated using the theory of inertia-induced lateral migration. The smaller particles and the carrier are treated together as a micropolar fluid. The translational and rotational velocities of one of the larger particles are found.
