Determination of the Absorption of Solar Radiation by Atmospheric Aerosols: Application of the Diffuse-Direct Radiation Method.
Data were taken and analyzed for a total of seven days at two widely separated sites (Tucson, AZ and Laramie, WY). Certain experimental and theoretical improvements on the diffuse-direct method and its implementation are discussed. Improved radiometer designs are discussed. A new approach to the reduction of diffuse-direct data, which eliminates any dependence on Mie theory for describing the optical properties of aerosols, is put forth.
