Increased efficiency of a transverse-discharge XeF laser
Abstract
The effect of UV preionization on the output characteristics of an XeF excimer laser pumped by a fast transverse discharge is studied experimentally. It is shown that the output energy from the main discharge increases by a factor of five when preionization is used and that an output energy of 25 mJ is achieved with a pulse length of 30 nsec. UV preionization is found not to result in any significant extension of the homogeneous stage of the discharge.
