Effect of atomic oxygen on vibrational relaxation in the system CS2 + O2
Abstract
Complete numerical calculations of the vibrational kinetics in the CS2 + O2 system have been performed. It is found that for the Gaussian distribution formed in the CS + O chemical reaction, an anomalously fast V-T relaxation of metastable CO-O can have an important beneficial effect. Population inversion under various conditions is described. The results indicate that an excess of atomic oxygen in the reactant mixture CS2 + O2 over times of the order of the exchange time leads to a substantial increase in the total population inversion, with a shift of the population maximum toward lower levels.
