Stability of a preionized electric discharge in a mixture of inert gases and halogens
Abstract
A study of the stability region for a Kr-F2 mixture pumped by an electrical discharge with an external ionizing agent is reported. The growth time for the stepwise-ionization instability is determined, taking into account electron attachment. An equation is obtained which gives an estimate of the duration of the homogeneous stage of the discharge for which the power can be much higher than the initial power as a consequence of electron breeding.
