Reconstruction of turbulence spectrum from transient characteristics of a shadow-instrument signal
Abstract
For a field of optical discontinuities in a medium that moved in a direction normal to the instrument axis, a relationship is established between the time correlation function and the frequency spectrum of the instrument's output signal, on the one hand, and the energy spectrum of the medium's dielectric-constant fluctuations, on the other hand. A formal solution is obtained to the problem of recovering the turbulence spectrum from these temporal characteristics of the output signal. The influence of the scanning function of the instrument in the case of a shadow diaphragm with a Gaussian transmission function is examined.
