Measurements of turbulence quantities in three-dimensional surface buoyant jet
Abstract
Measurements have been made of turbulence quantities including velocity and concentration fluctuations in a three-dimensional surface buoyant jet. Attention is given to both cross correlation functions and coherence properties between the fluctuations. The vertical variation of the fluctuations, especially at the interface, demonstrates the existence of coherent large-scale eddies which may be associated with the entrainment process. This is further confirmed by a conditionally sampling technique which considers the time scale of turbulent-nonturbulent duration and permits the prediction of large-scale fluctuation motions.
