Calculation of optical pumping in an atomic beam
Abstract
Calculations are made of the population distribution in sublevels of the ground state of an Rb-87 atomic beam during optical pumping by an Rb-85 resonant light. The distribution is evaluated as a function of atom transfer across the pumping region, spectral composition, and irradiated light polarization. Results are presented for the overlap factor as a function of the widths of the radiation and absorption lines and for the efficiency of sublevel pumping of the ground state.
