Analysis of two methods of measuring the temperature gradient in the ocean medium
Abstract
Errors arising in two methods of measuring the ocean temperature gradient by a freely falling instrument are analyzed. The methods are the method of differentiation of the temperature profile with respect to depth, and the method of measuring the temperature difference on a base. The temperature profile is assumed to consist of steps having identical temperature drop. The method consisting of measuring the temperature difference on a base is shown to be less subject to error.
