On the quantization of electrical charge from general relativity
Abstract
It is shown that charge quantization is implied by the asymptotic form of the structure of the irreducible representations of the Einstein group. When the limit of flat space-time is taken, that is, when the Einstein group representations of general relativity are replaced by the Poincare group of representations of special relativity, the feature of electrical charge of elementary matter vanishes altogether. This result is in accordance with the generalized Mach principle of the theory, whereby all features of interacting matter are related to a coupling between the observed matter and the remainder of the matter of a closed system.
