Simple tests for supposed interior Kerr metrics.
Abstract
Simple means of testing stationary axisymmetric solutions for the interior of a rotating body are presented. The tests examine the behavior of the redshift observed at infinity for photons emitted in a locally nonrotating frame as the frame nears the center of symmetry from different directions; the locally nonrotating frame is simply defined to eliminate as much as possible the effects of rotating mass. Applications of the tests to the Kerr metric as written in BoyerLindquist coordinates, a metric proposed by Hogan (1976), and a second interior Kerr metric are given.
