Fundamentals of the mechanics of heterogeneous media
Abstract
The theoretical foundations for the study of the motion of heterogeneous or multiphase mixtures under different conditions are laid down. Detailed derivations of the equations of motion, rheology, and thermodynamics of heterogeneous media are given. Both the phenomenological approach and a deeper averaging method are considered. Closed systems of equations are obtained for monodisperse mixtures that take into account viscosity, phase compressibility, phase transitions, relative motion of phases, radial pulsations of bubbles, random motion and collisions between particles, and other effects. The principal solutions to the problem of the flow and heat and mass transfer effects in flow past drops, particles, and bubbles are studied.
