Effect of variations in the amount of ozone in the atmosphere on ultraviolet radiation
Abstract
Numerical model calculations of the direct and scattered ultraviolet radiation at sea level were performed for different values of the ozone content in the atmosphere as a function of wavelength, solar height, albedo, and atmospheric turbidity. It is shown that a given decrease in total ozone content leads to an increase in the direct component of UV radiation and to a somewhat smaller increase in the diffuse component.
